Search Engine Optimisation

Uncategorized

These days having a GO at what all we called as SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), really an awesome technique to register yourself world wide.

There are few points which i had came through reading various documents, journals etc. which I really want to share with my readers.

Firstly, if you think that web standards are for no mean, please keep in mind you will be the worst PR rated web site as per your quality, Google crawler loves standards, so don’t feel comfortable while designing only can improve your PR rating to a good amount.

The main points in standards(or I may say off-site optimisation) which Google look for involves:

  • Heading (Primarily H1 and H2)
  • Page Titles
  • Page Description
  • Meta Tags
  • Image Title
  • Proper link map between all the pages in the web site.
  • Frequency of using key words in text documents.
  • Anchor Tags.
  • The main point among all these is Title to the page(Try using all your keywords in the title such that almost every keyword for the page is covered and title should me short and meaningful).
The main points in on-site optimisation involves:

  • Getting Links from other web sites related to your topic with higher PR’s ( Your mean of link depends on your credibility which may involves : Writing quality content, Link Partners and many other which I will not be discussing here(As they can harm you more then being beneficial some times if not properly used :( ))
Mainly, Do not Use (At Any Case) Any of Black SEO techniques, Otherwise you own will be resopnsible for your web site being blacklisted by the Google.

How To Persuade Your Users, Boss or Clients

Welcome

Whether you are getting a client to sign off on a website’s design or persuade a user to complete a call to action, we all need to know how to be convincing. Like many in the Web design industry, I have a strange job. I am part salesperson, part consultant, student and part user experience designer. One day I could be pitching a new idea to a board of directors, the next I might be designing an e-commerce purchasing process. There is, however, a common theme: I spend most of my time persuading people.

As Web designers, we often have to nudge people in the direction we want them to go. It is a vital skill we all have to learn. We’re not talking about manipulation. Underhanded techniques, and certainly lying, won’t get you anywhere. But you can present yourself and your arguments in ways that make people more receptive. The first and probably most important way is to empathize.

1. Empathize

The worst thing you can do is enter a meeting or begin designing a user interface with a personal agenda. If your goal is to push the other party into agreeing with you, it will resist. But if you seek to understand their needs and respond to them, you will find the others more cooperative.

Start by Listening
To achieve this, you must really listen. Paying lip service to the “idea” of listening is not enough. You have to hear what they’re saying and look for those “points of pain” that your ideas might actually relieve.

Tailor Presentation of Agenda
Rather than forcing the people in the room to reluctantly agree, tailor your presentation of ideas so that they see the benefit of them. This involves some creative thinking on your part but is possible if you really understand their needs.

Show Benefit to Other Party
Remember, explaining how your ideas will help you or others is not enough. You have to demonstrate how they help the actual people you are speaking to. For example, rather than saying to your client, “Users are going to love this new feature,” you could instead say, “This new feature will keep users coming back, which will dramatically improve the number of leads you receive.” Once you understand the other party and have thought about their needs, your next step is to form a relationship with them.

Mount a new hard drive as a folder in your C: drive

Hacking, Window XP

Actually, this tip works for any partition of any NTFS formatted drive (except the partition with the Windows system files on it)… Windows XP, like 2000 before it, allows you to ‘mount’ drives as folders in a pre-existing logical drive. For example, if you had a computer with a 20GB disk formatted into a single partition and volume (drive c:), you could purchase a second drive, partition and format it from disk manager and then instead of giving it its own drive letter, add it to your c: drive as a directory. Any files added to that directory would of course be stored in the new HD.

This can come in extremely handy, as certain applications (databases come to mind) can grow extremely large, but may not support storing data on a (logically) separate drive.
